Most Anticipated Prints and Shows of 2014 - Part 2

By Casey Cuene

More predictions for the New Year.

I’m back with the rest of my anticipated list. If you missed the first half of my countdown, check it out here. I’m really excited about 2014. It seems like there are more and more galleries popping up with pop culture inspired shows. Plus, Mondo-Con is sure to cause pandemonium amongst collectors. With that being said, here are my top 5 most anticipated prints and art series of the new year.

5. Unreal Estate III by Tim Doyle

Tim Doyle is very hit or miss for me. But he really hits it out of the park with some of the prints from his popular Unreal Estate series. Let’s hope the third installment brings the bar from Cheers!

4. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by Aaron Horkey

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="250"] Aaron Horkey's Two Towers and Return of the King Variants[/caption] Mondo snuck in another print from the Lord of the Rings series right before 2013 came to a close. As expected, it caused a frenzy for all poster collectors. It only seems fitting for Horkey to finish the series this year by releasing The Fellowship of the Ring.

3. More Art Prints by Jay Ryan

For the first time in a long time, we have seen more art prints than gig posters coming out of The Bird Machine. When asked by fans about the subject shift, Jay said there are more people doing gig posters these days. He went on to add, “[t]he other side of this is that I enjoy making art prints more - I don't have to worry about if the band's drummer's girlfriend hates that particular purple, or whatever. Generally, people enjoy the art prints more, too.” I’m one of those people. Plus, a happy artist is going to mean better art.

2. Back to the Future by Laurent Durieux

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="614"] Sneak Peak of Durieux's BTTF[/caption] It will be hard to top Phantom City Creative’s Back to the Future triptych. 2013 was a breakthrough year for Laurent Durieux and if anybody was going to top Phantom City Creative, it would be Mr. Durieux. Only a small preview image has been released, and we're dying to see more. Look for it at Mondo’s gallery when they present “The Art of Laurent Durieux.” The show opens Friday, February 7th.

1. Pulp Fiction by Tyler Stout

[caption id="attachment_2952" align="aligncenter" width="300"]stoutreservoirdogs Tyler Stout's Print for the 20th Anniversary Screening of Reservoir Dogs[/caption] In 2012, Mondo hosted the 20th anniversary screening of Reservoir Dogs at Quentin Tarantino’s New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles. Fans quickly bought out all of the tickets despite no official word of a poster. Lo and behold, fans were given a Reservoir Dogs poster designed by Tyler Stout at the end of the night. It only seems fitting for a similar anniversary screening in 2014 for Pulp Fiction.
